Ayan

So it's Harris again for Surya. And of course, their combination has been extraordinary so far with Kaaka Kaaka, Ghajini and VA. What about Ayan?

1. Oo Aayiye Aayiye : I just don't know how Harris manages to do this, giving amazing songs despite them sounding similar to his own earlier works, ie. In spite of a direct lift from Adiyae Kolluthey(listen to the 3rd line of both the songs), here you have a song that still sounds amazing! Sure chartbuster!

2. Pala Pala : With a slight Latin flavor and nice rhythm in the background, Pala Pala is a Rangola type song sung by Hariharan. Hear it a couple of times and you'll know that this song is soon going to become a rage!

3. Nenje Nenje : People who like Paartha mudhal naal, Unakkul naan etc etc, tune into Nenje Nenje. Harris does it again!(pun/no pun intended!) It is the kind of a song that only Harris can give. Brilliant.

4. Honey Honey : B-grade song from Harris. Don't bother listening to it. Hard to believe that this song has been composed by same guy who has composed the above 3 songs and the next one. You can't track the flow of this song.

5. Vizhi Moodi : Lastly, the inevitable Karthik song in this Harris-Surya combo. You can officially and proudly say that with this song, tamil cinema has a Bol na Halke halke too! Brilliant!

Harris clearly has a huge winner in Ayan. There are people who don't give him credit and say he copies. I too did that for a while but then realized that this fellow has enormous talent too. He does copy, but that's only around 5-10% of his work! Who cares? You're the best thing that has happened to tamil cinema in this decade, Harris!

5-10% of work? Blame me... almost every album of his has got a song that is copied. And every third song is the one that he has lifted from his previous work. If he is the best thing that has happened to the music industry, we are in dire straits. That honey honey song is also a copy. A music reviewer like you should have knowledge about it. Good luck.

Well, whoever you are, thanks for seeing my blog and for the comment!
As u say, yes, in every album there's at least one song copied. But it's almost never been a note to note copy, like Pritam, for example.
Even if u see June Ponal, which everybody considers to be one of the most obvious tunes Harris has copied, only the starting tune is similar to All Rise. Then it's all original right? Even for the other copied songs, he has taken only a small(but significant) part of the original song and then it's original. And moreover, you can't deny the fact that he has given some really beautiful original songs too. Considering all these points, i said 5-10%. Ok, if you want to, take it to 15% but not more than that! And i definitely feel that after 2002-03, Harris has influenced the tamil music industry more than anybody else. ARR also did good a good job the very few times he turned up in kollywood in the last few years but since he has turned up only a very few times in the recent past, Harris has an edge. Though there's absolutely no doubt that ARR was the undisputed king of tamil music in the 90s. Let's hope ARR again shows something spectacular as he has 4 tamil albums to be released this year! If they're really good maybe I'll change my mind!
